    Frequently Asked Questions...

Q: Is New Moms a registered charity?  Is my gift to New Moms tax-deductible?

A:  New Moms is a registered charity in the state of Illinois – but a donor from any state may make a charitable gift to our organization and receive a commensurate tax deduction.  Once you make a gift to New Moms, you will receive a receipt or confirmation letter to keep for your records and use for tax purposes.

For more information about New Moms and its status as a charitable organization, you can also visit www.guidestar.org to obtain any organization's address, names of their governing body, and copies of their income tax filings.

Q:  Does New Moms ever sell its donors’ addresses to other organizations?

A:  Absolutely not!  New Moms places the highest priority on protecting the privacy of our donors.  We hold all donor information in strict confidence. New Moms does not and will not sell or trade a donor’s information to any other entity.

Q:  What if I want to make an anonymous gift to New Moms?

A: New Moms always respects the privacy of our donors who do not wish to reveal their generosity to the general public.  If you wish this to be the case, simply let us know when you make your donation that you want to remain anonymous.

Q:  Who am I helping with my gift to New Moms?

A: New Moms, Inc. serves homeless teen moms and their children, with the mothers ranging from the ages of 13 to 21. New Moms' target neighborhoods of Humboldt Park, Logan Square and West Town have staggering annual birth rates – 29%, 20% and 19% respectively among adolescent girls ages 10 through 19.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, there are between 1,200 and 1,700 births per year to teen moms in our three target communities -- an overwhelming 84% of all births. When these young women come to us, approximately 80% have dropped out of school. Only about 25% have ever held a job. Almost all are on welfare (multi-generational welfare recipients) or have no income at all.

Our transitional living shelter serves homeless teen moms and their children from all of Chicago, while our community outreach programs serve the same population from the Humboldt Park, Logan Square and West Town neighborhoods of Chicago.
